Being New, and Artwork

Sun Jan 25, 2009, 7:08 AM
So yeah, I'm new. I've lurked off and on over here for a few years now - mostly just because I like looking at artwork, and there is some crazy-awesome stuff here. It's crazy, really. I love art so much, but can't draw myself. Worth shit, seriously.

Its like... I can picture how I want it, even sometimes how I could get there, all in my head, but then all that gets stuck somewhere around my elbow. No joke. But just looking at some of the great art makes me want to be able to draw my own characters - because I'm a writer, see, and roleplayer. And there is nothing I'd love more than to have artwork done of my precious charries, from roleplaying and writing.

Or of my dragons. ^^ My draggies are my babies. It is really sad how addictive DragCave is... but there's just something about pixelated dragons that tugs at your heartstrings... ahahaha. How lame. But really. I use them (the dragons) as characters, and I love to be able to draw them. And to be able to draw my fantasy story charries, or my historical fiction charries... but especially the fantasy ones. That would be awesome.

So, inspired by some really cool anthro stuff I was looking at last night, I decided to try my hand at drawing my anthro Neopets charries. Yeah, Neopets. Don't even get me started on that - it used to be awesome and now... ugh. Just, ugh. But the characters and the concept is great. It is sucha fun world to dabble in - I've made up my own canon for it and everything. But I'd really like to be able to draw my charries.

So I tried. It looks really pathetic. ^^ One pant-leg came out not looking half-bad, for me. And then I got caught up on drawing hands, and arms. I've got a not too bad almost-fist (based it off my own arm, hand slightly clenched), and even a semi-decent finger. Yeah, the sheet looks pretty funny. Random fingers everywhere on it. But I don't want to draw my anthro charries in a 'realistic' style, but neither do I want trad. anime, either.

What I really want to try is watercolours - I think that would be awesome for my fantasy charries (humanoids, mostly, although if any anthros turned up, that would look cool, too). And for landscapes - I love photographing landscapes and stuff. Even have a few pics I might put up later. But to be able to paint the scenery for my stories... *dies*

So yeah. I want to become a better artist (well, hell, something worthy of even being called artistic). I don't think I'll upload any doodles yet, even to scraps, but maybe eventually...
